A woman filming inside a thrift store appeared to freeze when she opened a small pocket on a white purse and pulled out folded cash. She posts on TikTok as @gabymixco and shared the clip with the caption, “I was freaking out bc I thought they were $100 bills. But I’ll take $70!” On-screen text read, “POV: you find cash at the thrift store.” The TikTok video has gained 1.4 million views. In the clip, she appeared to be wearing tortoiseshell glasses and a dark grey T-shirt, with her dark hair pulled back in a ponytail. She covered her mouth with her hand, eyes wide, before the camera moved to a white purse hanging on a rack among other bags. Her hand reached in, unzipped a small pocket, and rummaged inside. After a moment, she pulled out a folded stack of U.S. dollar bills. She looked around the store, then opened the purse’s main compartment and peered inside before covering her mouth again. She held up the stack and counted aloud, “Twenty… Forty… Sixty… Seventy.” She fanned out the bills, three $20 notes and one $10 note, and repeated “Seventy” with a wide grin. She laughed, covered her mouth with the cash, and said, “This is crazy,” before zipping the purse closed. She said the $70 covered her cash payment at the register In a follow-up TikTok video captioned “Yall are party poopers,” she said the reaction from viewers had been “so annoying.” She described people “raining on my parade” and mimicked critics who said “she put it there,” called it “so fake,” and said it was “staged.” She addressed the camera and said, “Ma’am,” then insisted it was not like her to hide things for views. She said friends could confirm that and described herself as “a very spontaneous person.” She told viewers to check her TikTok, adding that everything there was spontaneous and “just me and my crazy self.” She then said that yesterday, after being home for months because she is chronically ill, she decided to go to the thrift store. @gabymixco I was freaking out bc I thought they were $100 bills. But I’ll take $70! #thrifting #fyp ♬ original sound – Noah Pranks She said her husband told her, “go, you’re finally feeling better. Go and have fun,” and that he did not give her a budget, which made her “so happy.” She paused to apologize for her accent and said, “I’m not from the USA, even though I am an American citizen.” She said she found a purse she thought was interesting, found $70 inside, and was in “complete shock.” Thrift stores can turn up all kinds of surprises, such as when a Minnesota woman thought she had found curtains in a Goodwill bin, only for her $10 purchase to be worth $1,000. She explained that she filmed herself zipping the purse because she wanted to react exactly as she did when she first found the money. She said she opened it and showed it to the camera. She set the time at 7:50 p.m. and said the store closes at 8. She said there was hardly anybody around and that she knew there was nobody in her section, so she recorded it. She said, “I spent the $70 I found that I was blessed with by God Almighty at the thrift store.” She then insisted she did not plan it, repeating, “I did not plan it,” and added, “I did not fake it. I did not stage it.” She said, “It was all me being blessed by the Lord Almighty,” then said, “I’m done!” @gabymixco Yall are party poopers #thrifting #viral #fyp ♬ original sound – gabymixco Viewers were split on whether she should have filmed the moment at all. One commenter wrote, “why yall be recording and posting stuff just take the money and go.” Another focused on hygiene and wrote, “Why do ppl touch their faces and mouths after touching things at the thrift store.” Thrift-store discoveries have sparked plenty of debate online, as when a woman found a necklace at a thrift store and a hidden detail left her covering her mouth in disbelief. A third commenter warned her about counting in the aisle and wrote, “Girl you’re not supposed to count the money right there!!!” Someone else questioned how the cash was still there and wrote, “There’s no way that it wasn’t checked out by a worker first.” Another commenter suggested she pass some of it on and wrote, “Pay that good karma forward. Spend some of that money on people who are in need. Buy food, clothing, and hygiene items for those in need.”
