The Merseyside club have until June 2027 to activate the clause.Liverpool could be in the market for a centre-back next summer with captain Virgil van Dijk’s contract set to expire.Quansah came through the Reds’ academy and made his senior debut in a 2-1 win over Newcastle in August 2023.Quansah’s last act at Liverpool came in lifting the club’s 20th top-flight titleGettyWhile Liverpool have the upper hand in any Quansah negotiations, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could push for his signature again next summerGettyHe went on to make 58 appearances for the Reds, scoring three times.Quansah on top formQuansah has seen his stock rise since leaving Liverpool in 2025, having made his senior England debut and featured in Thomas Tuchel‘s World Cup squad over the past year.He has remained in favour with the Three Lions, starting in three of their four Nations League games in the recent international break. The Leverkusen star played the full 90 minutes of the defeat to Spain, ahead of former Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, before starting in the 7-0 thumping of Croatia and a 3-0 victory over Czechia. And at club level, Quansah has been in superb form for Leverkusen after joining the club in a record £30million switch in 2025.Quansah has been deployed as both a centre-back and right-back, offering much-needed versatility to the Bundesliga outfit.Quansah has quickly become a key figure for Bayern Leverkusen after joining the club from Liverpool in 2025AFPQuansah tipped for homecomingWith some huge names circling over Quansah’s signature, European football expert Andy Brassell admitted a return to Liverpool is a real possibility, with Leverkusen unlikely to stand in the player’s way.He told talkSPORT: “If Liverpool activate the buyback, I don’t think they’ll [Leverkusen] be disappointed because it’s quite a high figure.”Highlighting his quality, Brassell added: “If you’ve got Quansah in the team, you’ve got enormous versatility. Because he’s someone who is good with the ball at his feet, so he can add to the attack.”Brassell also insisted Quansah could have a real opportunity to showcase his abilities in the Europa League this term.Leverkusen are once again competing in Europe’s second-tier competition after missing out on Champions League qualification, and launching a serious title bid would boost the defender’s image.Making this point, Brassell admitted this could well pave the way for a Liverpool return, where Quansah could partner Jeremy Jacquet in defence should Van Dijk leave at the end of his contract next summer.Jacquet has impressed this term since making his £55m move to LiverpoolGettyHe continued: “I imagine if Leverkusen have a good season, do well in the Europa League – remember they were finalists last time they were in it [in 2024], the competition is indisputably weaker now – he’ll get plenty of opportunities to show how good he is.“And that will open up the opportunity [to move], not just of Liverpool possibly buying him – maybe we’re looking at that. “Maybe we’re looking at a Jacquet/Quansah double act this time next year, I don’t know.“But I would be amazed if he has a good season, and Leverkusen have a good season, if he’s not on the block to get sold, and he’s not piquing the interest of more clubs than Liverpool at the end of the season.”
