We built a weekly game on Reddit where traders bet against our algorithm. Here's what we learned launching it

Wait 5 sec.

What we did: We run Veridian Signal, which scores stocks using an algorithm along with market sentiment. Each Monday, 5 names go on our Radar, and the algorithm's call on every one of them is "up." Anyone on r/VeridianSignal can call each name above or below its Radar entry price at Friday's close. Calls lock Thursday at 4 PM ET. On Friday everyone gets graded in public, the algorithm included. We don't delete any weeks. What we learned building it: We built it as a Reddit Devvit app, so you play right inside the post, with no sign-up and no leaving Reddit. Early feedback: people didn't realize the algorithm had already made its call. Adding a simple "VERA: ▲ Up" tag next to each name made it click right away. Lesson: if it's a game against something, show the opponent's move. Automation got the most response. The app posts the week's names, a "calls lock tomorrow" reminder, and the Friday scorecard to our Discord on its own. What didn't work: We planned to have the app pull each week's names straight from our backend. Reddit rejected our domain, because apps can't call personal domains. For now we enter the names by hand, and we've applied for Reddit's external endpoints so our backend can send data into the app. Question for you: Would you rather play against an algorithm that shows its call up front, or one that hides it until Friday? Disclosure: I'm a co-founder of Veridian Signal. Happy to share how the scoring works in the comments. submitted by /u/Sup3riorSn1per [link] [comments]
