Mikel Arteta has been urged to start Viktor Gyokeres against Leeds United on Saturday.Arsenal fan and content creator Joel Beya wants to see the Sweden international start the game at the Emirates Stadium, live on talkSPORT.Gyokeres has firmly been second choice at Arsenal this seasonGettyKai Havertz is an injury doubt for the game having limped off during the international break. And that could see Gyokeres handed a first Premier League start of the season. In the opening five top-flight games so far, Gyokeres has played just 29 minutes and not started. However, Beya wants to see Gyokeres get the nod to lead the line, saying on talkSPORT Breakfast, he said: “I think he’s going to start.“If you look at his record against Leeds last season. He’s got three goals – two at home and one away, and he’s on form at the moment.“I have seen people say that Mikel Merino should be starting. I love Merino, I think he’s the best finisher at the club but for the good of his confidence, he has to start.“If he can’t start against Leeds with the way he’s performed during the international break, then it’s a signal that his time could be up.”Green shootsThe 28-year-old might not have scored for Arsenal this season yet, but he enjoyed a very good international break.Gyokeres played all four of Sweden’s Nations League games, and he scored in every match which saw Graham Potter‘s side collected ten points from a possible 12.But some still aren’t sold on Gyokeres’ use to Arsenal, although talkSPORT’s Andy Brassell is certainly not unconvinced. Gyokeres has 21 goals in 60 games for ArsenalGettyBrassell told talkSPORT.com: “We could talk about his struggles. What opportunity has he really had so far? I mean, we’re looking at what, half an hour’s worth of play? Really?“I mean, I don’t think anyone can realistically turn around and say, he’s not good enough off the back of half an hour’s Premier League football so far this season? To me, that seems ridiculous. To me, I thought he had a very acceptable first season in the Premier League.“And I know people look at him and say, ‘Oh, we expected more.’To me, he did exactly what he was meant to do last season. He provided them with a different option up front, and he was part of a team that came close to winning it all. “And of course, got the Premier League over the line, which is the most important thing. So, for people to be talking like he’s some sort of deadweight, I find a bit ludicrous, to be perfectly honest. Now, I don’t know what people are expecting.“If they’re expecting him to replicate his Sporting numbers in the Premier League, because we’re going to be waiting a long time for that to happen. But I think he is someone who, I think, you’d hope that he increases his output over the next little while. “But I don’t know if part of it is, in a summer when they went for Vinicius, that you think, OK, this is where we are as Arsenal now. We’re going for elite ready-made players.“And maybe there’s not the patience to see Gyokeres get to that point. I’ve made the comparison before with Didier Drogba, who, if you compare his first couple of seasons in the Premier League with what Gyokeres has done in his first season, it is quite comparable, actually. “No one even thinks about Drogba’s first couple of seasons in the Premier League now. Obviously he was a year or two younger. But I think writing him off this quickly to me seems a bit daft when he has had a decent first season. “Now I realise that part of the debate is informed by Arsenal being at such a high level really for the last season and a bit. I don’t think anything that he’s done on international break would really change people’s opinion. “The only way he would change people’s minds is by scoring big goals in games for Arsenal in the Premier League and big games in the Champions League. That is the only thing that is going to do it. I think with the opportunity he will get there. “But say if Arsenal were to keep him for the next two seasons and he scores goals at the same sort of lick that he did in his first season, I don’t think he’d look back at that and think that’s a really dreadful failure.”
