Off at a generous 6-1 in a face featuring a couple of high-profile debutantes by Uncle Mo, MERCURY MARAUDER (f, 2, Roadster–Alotofappeal, by Trippi) allowed the market leaders to take it to one another for the opening half-mile and she pounced on them en route to an eye-catching debut success Saturday at Belmont Park.A $275,000 purchase out of this year's OBS March Sale, the Florida-bred gray filly capped her worktab with a sound half-mile in :48.63 (13/64) on Sept. 30, but was allowed to jump at a solid number given that the money poured in for the rail-drawn Summer Memories and Morella just to her outside.Summer Memories, a $900,000 Keeneland September yearling, showed the way, but Morella wanted to go with her and that allowed Edgard Zayas to tuck Mercury Marauder in behind a decent pace of :22.19 and :45.37.Zayas made a decision fully three furlongs from home to not ride for luck and wait for an inside run, but rather steered out Mercury Marauder into the clear with aim on the leaders. Summer Memories dropped away tamely and Mercury Marauder rolled to the lead at the eighth pole before reporting home a good 10 lengths to the good. Morella held for second. The final time was 1:16 flat, 0.73 seconds slower than the time recorded by the boys in the first race on the program. Mercury Marauder is the 17th winner for her freshman sire (by Quality Road), a number that includes one wide-margin winner in South Korea.Sales history: $275,000 2yo '26 OBSMAR.
