(PTI Photo)The Delhi High Court Thursday sought a response from the Delhi Police on an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) worker’s plea seeking an independent probe into his alleged assault by Delhi Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh and others last month.The worker also sought preservation of CCTV footage of the alleged incident which took place during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar on September 27.Issuing notice to the police, Justice Sachin Datta also sought a status report. Police, however, had raised objections on whether the plea can even be entertained.The court will hear the matter next on November 17.In his plea, AAP worker Sahib Singh sought protection of his life and liberty citing threats to his and his family’s life; preservation of CCTV and electronic evidence between September 25 and 30; and an independent investigation into his allegations of assault, threats and police inaction.He also sought an independent court-supervised inquiry committee headed by a former Delhi HC judge to examine the complaints.Singh was with Tilak Nagar AAP MLA Jarnail Singh during an inspection of road construction work along the Outer Ring Road in West Delhi when the alleged incident took place. Singh also alleged that his mobile phone containing video recordings was forcibly taken and damaged.Story continues below this adSingh, in his plea, stated that he approached the Vikas Puri police station after the incident, submitting a written complaint, and had also approached the Commissioner of Police on September 29 seeking registration of an FIR, legal action and protection.While the police filed a non-cognisance report following the complaint, Singh submitted that it does not include the entirety of allegations.Earlier, two separate complaints — one by a Public Works Department assistant engineer and another by C P Arora Private Limited, the contractor executing the road work — were submitted to the Tilak Nagar police station against Jarnail Singh.They have alleged that the MLA and his associates threatened, intimidated and obstructed officials and workers at the road construction site in Vikaspuri over past four days.Sohini Ghosh is a Senior Correspondent at The Indian Express.
