Comedian Kapere Lufotose has questioned the state of Uganda’s comedy industry, saying many comedians are struggling financially despite the growth the industry once appeared to be experiencing.Kapere, who was visibly frustrated while speaking about the challenges facing comedians, said several of his colleagues have recently come out to reveal that they are struggling to make ends meet.We don’t know who’s bewitching us because now my colleagues have started coming out to reveal they are struggling like MC Fish. That’s why I ask, what happened to comedy?Kapere said the situation has left him wondering why comedians are no longer making the kind of money and attracting the audiences they once did.He also pointed to comedian Kapale’s return to Uganda and the poor turnout at one of his shows as another sign that something is wrong within the industry.“He used to pose in expensive, posh cars but had only 15 people at his show.”Kapere publicly declares he doesn’t want comedian colleagues at his funeralAccording to Kapere, Kapale played an important role in the comedy industry, including helping bring comedian Mariachi into the spotlight. He, however, believes there may be unresolved differences between the two comedians and suggested that they should put their disagreements aside.Kapale is the one who brought Mariachi into comedy but clearly something isn’t right and I suggest they forgive each other.Kapere’s comments come amid growing conversations about the challenges facing Uganda’s comedy industry, particularly declining audiences, financial struggles and the difficulty comedians face in sustaining successful shows. The post Kapere highlights dip in Uganda’s comedy industry appeared first on MBU.
