Dark matter outweighs everything astronomers can see, and nobody has ever held a piece of it. Daniel Defense is aiming for something similar with Gray Matter, a dealer-exclusive run of the DDM4 V7 SLW finished in gray from end to end. It is available now; it comes only through Daniel Defense dealers, and "Once it's gone, it's gone." The look is the first thing that pulls you in. This is the first gray anodized Daniel Defense has ever produced, so there is no black and no earth tone to fall back on. Receivers, rail and furniture all share one cool, monochrome shade, and the rifle looks like something that has never been in a catalog before. Underneath, it is one of the lightest and fastest-handling rifles in the DDM4 line, at under 6.5 pounds. The barrel is a cold hammer forged, 14.5-inch Lightweight profile unit, chrome-lined and heavy-phosphate-coated for accuracy and durability without the extra mass. A Dead Air Xeno Muzzle Device is pinned and welded to the muzzle, which brings the rifle to the NFA-required 16-inch minimum. The Hub and Blast Shroud complete the Xeno package.Handling is where the weight savings pay off. A 13.5-inch DD4 flat-front rail gives suppressor users plenty of room, with M-LOK and sling attachment points along it. B5 System Sierra K furniture is fitted for lightweight, ergonomic handling, and an enhanced three-piece trigger with all-new coating technology delivers a crisp pull and a smooth shooting experience. The rifle ships with a Savior Specialist Covert 38-inch rifle bag and three Magpul PMAGs, so it is ready to disappear into the back of a truck as easily as it disappears from a dealer's rack. Daniel Defense's participating dealer list runs to 141 locations, including chains such as Palmetto State Armory, Range USA, Dunham's Sports and Shoot Straight. If you got one, would you shoot it or collect it?
