Derek Chisora ‘arguing’ with British Boxing Board over comeback as he provides update

Derek Chisora claims his comeback fight has been met with resistance from the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC).The 42-year-old veteran had promised to hang up his gloves after his 50th professional outing against Deontay Wilder in April, but he has since changed his mind.Chisora will return to the ring eight months after his “last dance” with WilderGettySpeaking at an IBA press conference in Istanbul on Tuesday – four months removed from his split-decision defeat to ‘The Bronze Bomber’ – Chisora affirmed he would be returning to the ring against Murat Gassiev in December. He also stated that Manchester and London are in the running to host the fight, which falls under the auspices of the BBBofC, whom Chisora says he is at odds with over his comeback.“I’ll stop when I’m ready,” said Chisora during an appearance on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan show on Thursday lunchtime. “I’m having an argument with the British Boxing Board of Control right now.“They are saying, ‘Oh, that is enough’. I hear them; I get it.“If you look at it, James DeGale is back (in unlicensed boxing, not BBBofC-sanctioned professional boxing) because they are bored.”talkSPORT.com has reached out to the BBBofC for further clarity on the situation.General Secretary of the Board Robert Smith insists he has not yet spoken to Chisora about his plans to return. If Chisora’s comeback fight was, for whatever reason, blocked by the BBBofC, he could always pick up a licence with a different body and box Gassiev elsewhere. That being said, when talkSPORT.com spoke to WBA champion Gassiev hours before the announcement, he didn’t seem sure about the fight.Chisora has announced that he will box Gassiev in December in EnglandGetty“I don’t know if it is possible, as he is not in the WBA ratings right now, so maybe I don’t fight with Derek,” said Gassiev.Chisora, on the other hand, insists that talks are progressing between the IBA and Queensberry.Chisora provides update on Gassiev fight“Listen, I spoke to Umar Kremlev from the IBA, and he said he wants to make this fight happen,” Chisora added.“I said, ‘Okay, fine, perfect, let’s try and make it in December’.“So I have put them in touch with Queensberry because George Warren wants me to do one with him and his dad [Frank Warren].“So we are working on that right now. If it happens, it happens.“If it doesn’t happen, then it doesn’t matter. But right now, it is going to happen.”Watch Boxing on DAZN*If you click a link in this boxout, we will earn affiliate revenueSign up to DAZN to access the definitive subscription for boxing fans.Upgrade to DAZN Ultimate from just £24.99/month, guaranteeing access to 185+ fights annually, a minimum of 12 pay-per-views at no extra cost, as well as every Lega Serie A match and other elite football access.Alternatively, DAZN Standard is just £15.99/month, with the caveat you will have to pay for pay-per-view events.Click here to sign up.
