I built a chrome extension that puts a small timer on your social media pages

Wait 5 sec.

Hey, I'm a freshman at UIUC who opening LinkedIn "for five minutes" and coming up for air an hour later, so I built FocusTicker: a Chrome extension that tracks active time across 10 social sites and sticks a small draggable timer right on the page. Current session plus today's total. One number, where the scrolling happens. It's on the Chrome Web Store now. Real numbers: 22 installs, about 10 weekly users, three 5-star reviews. All 22 came from me sending the link to friends, so that well is dry. Here's what I can't figure out. My analytics say the average session is like 3 seconds of engagement. People install and then... I honestly don't know if the timer is distracting, confusing, or just not useful enough to keep around. It's free, no signup, everything stays in your browser: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/focusticker/pghicmhngfmldcnoglcodkbaiaknjlah Built with Manifest V3. Nerdy version: it watches tab switches, idle state, and window focus so it only counts active time, keeps state across storage.session/local/sync with a Promise queue, and the overlay lives in Shadow DOM so site CSS can't touch it. If you try it, please tell me what your first minute felt like! That's the feedback I actually need. submitted by /u/Ok-Claim7701 [link] [comments]
