I’ve spent more money than I’d like to admit on pack-ripping sites and Labubu blind boxes. Figured I should probably build something instead of just buying more boxes. So I built Chancey, a Shopify app that lets brands sell mystery boxes with a digital pack-opening experience. Customers buy a box, reveal what they got and the store ships the actual products. Also recently added an option for merchants to offer buybacks on rolled items which unlocks an extra source of revenue. I started out mostly targeting TCG stores. The pitch was basically: build your own GameStop Power Packs on Shopify. But recently I've been getting inbound interest from larger brands with a different use case: moving slower-selling inventory. They want to mix those products with more sought-after items in mystery boxes, without discounting the individual products. Wasn’t really the angle I started with, but it’s been interesting seeing what people want to use it for. I started building in June and onboarded the first few merchants in August. A few of them have already done five figures in sales. This is the 5th app / service I built this year (2nd Shopify app). All are generating revenue, but this one feels like the most promising from early feedback and success. Demo attached you can check out the full flow here: chancey.run or buy a box from a store using the plugin. Curious what you think: would you buy a mystery box from a brand you already like, or is the appeal mostly specific to cards and collectibles? submitted by /u/13001r [link] [comments]
