I run a daily geography game for a few hundred people at work. I just built a public version.

Wait 5 sec.

I got hooked on daily geography games and started running one at work. It grew to a few hundred players. My team plays every morning and it turned into the best part of the workday. The problem: it only lived inside the company. When friends left, they lost access, and I couldn't invite anyone outside work. I wanted to keep playing with them, so I built a public version: mapguesser.gg How it works: each day you get 5 mystery cities on a spinnable satellite globe. City 1 starts easy. City 5 is hard. No labels, no borders, just terrain. You drop a pin where you think each city is and score up to 1000 points total based on distance. After each game you get a fact about every city, so you're learning geography without studying. The social side is what kept a few hundred people playing, so the game is built around it: - Head-to-head duels - Kahoot-like party mode for group game nights - Friend leaderboards - Shareable results Every day you can see where your friends pinned each city, side by side with your own guesses. Free to play. A few things I learned building it: - Zero-label satellite imagery is brutally hard in the best way. You read terrain, coastlines, and city texture instead of recognizing names. - Streaks make or break a daily game. At work we auto-protected streaks for weekends, holidays, and PTO. A public game can't know your calendar, so I built "streak freezes": play 7 days of games to earn one, and you apply it manually when you miss a day. Thanks for reading. Try the game here: mapguesser.gg Would love feedback, especially from fellow geo nerds. What would make you play a second day? submitted by /u/Upbeat-Parfait9615 [link] [comments]
