It marked Cardoso’s third-straight start in midfield as he continues his second season with the club. Cardoso watched as Cristian Romero’s late winning goal helped Atletico Madrid earn a first road win over Alaves since January 2021. Cardoso will aim to retain his starting spot this week when Atletico Madrid hosts Manchester United in UEFA Champions League play.
