My side project is live: an Apple TV app for watching Nordic trains move around a map

Wait 5 sec.

Spår started with a fairly simple idea: I wanted the TV to show trains moving around Sweden, like a living painting. It grew to include Finland and Norway too, with around 550 trains on the map at once in the afternoon. The trains move along the real tracks, with colours showing delays: white, yellow, orange and red. You can select one to follow it and see where it’s going. Or just leave the app running, let the interface fade and watch the map slowly drift. One of my favourite features came from a comment on Threads. I shared an early version, and someone suggested colouring the trains by delay. It’s now on by default and tends to be the first thing people notice. I built it with SwiftUI and open data from Trafikverket, Fintraffic and Entur. There’s no account, no advertising and no tracking. It’s now on the App Store: https://apple.co/4B0CUPB Happy to share more about building it or working with tvOS. submitted by /u/lormiz [link] [comments]
