Water To Wine and Saxon Street are both headed to Royal Ascot, according to co-trainer John Gosden, who spoke during Epsom's pre-Derby Festival gallops morning. The duo are likely for the G2 King Edward VII Stakes, also known as the Ascot Derby. The latter, a Marcstown-owned son of Saxon Warrior, won the Listed Blue Riband Trial Stakes in April. He ran third in the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood on May 23.Gosden, who trains with his son Thady, said, “Saxon Street is Ascot-bound, I think and I've learned down the years the Derby is not a race you come shooting from the hip at, it really isn't.“We've been lucky to win the race twice and have second, third and fourths in the Derby, but you know what's required, and it wouldn't have suited him at this stage.“He's still lightly-raced and it would all come a bit too soon from him, and trip-wise it might have been fine but the way they're going to run a Derby – they're not exactly going to hang about, are they?”Kingman's Water To Wine was a winner on debut at Newbury on April 18. He was due to contest the G3 Chester Vase, but missed that contest due to a setback.Gosden added, “He looks like being Ascot-bound as well and he's a very tall, leggy horse and this probably wouldn't have been his track anyway, but we'll take it one step at a time and see.“He's running at Kempton on Wednesday. We missed a bit of time with him after Newbury, but he's back now.”Another runner for the Gosdens, I'm The One, will not run in the G1 Betfred Oaks and is under consideration for the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes. A winner at first asking at Newbury, the Sea The Stars filly was second by two lengths to Amelia Earhart (Camelot) in the Listed Chesire Oaks.He said, “I'm The One will be fine. We're just giving her a little time to come right. The Ribblesdale might be a bit soon, but we'll see.”In another blow for the training duo, Juddmonte's Field Of Gold (Kingman), ruled out of the G1 Lockinge Stakes with an infection earlier this month, was also scratched from the G1 Queen Anne Stakes on Tuesday. The post Gosdens’ Royal Ascot Team Evolving appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
