Bentornato and Book ‘Em Danno Set for Showdown in True North

Trainer Jose D'Angelo has confirmed that last year's GI Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Bentornato (Valiant Minister) will make his next start in the GIII True North Stakes on June 6 at Saratoga. That means he will be facing the horse that nosed him out for the sprint championship last year, Book 'em Danno (Bucchero). The True North carries a purse of $400,000 and is run at 6 1/2 furlongs. The two have not met since the 2024 GIII Saudi Derby, in which Book 'em Danno was second and Bentornato was third.“Book 'em Danno is a good horse and people are waiting to see them run together,” D'Angelo said. “Now the opportunity is there. We are going see who can beat who.”Bentornato has not started since finishing second in the GI Dubai Golden Shaheen.“We picked this race because it is the perfect race timing-wise after Dubai,” D'Angelo said. “He's been doing great at Churchill. He spent all of last summer in Saratoga, so we know he likes it there, too.  The 6 1/2 furlongs should be good for him.”The Eclipse Award voting for top sprinter was among the closest of any Eclipse race last year, with Book 'em Danno winning by a 115-82 margin,“It's my horse, so of course I wanted to win the Eclipse Award,” D'Angelo said. “But I understand that Book 'em Danno deserved the Eclipse Award because he ran more than us. We won the right race, the Breeders' Cup Sprint. If you could have ever give the Eclipse Award to two horses, that would have been the right division to do so because both deserved it.”The post Bentornato and Book ‘Em Danno Set for Showdown in True North appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
