Group 1 scorer Lazzat (Territories) will miss a title defence in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June after picking up an injury during his victory in Thursday's G3 Prix du Palais Royal. Trained by Jerome Reynier, he is expected to make a full recovery. The Wathnan Racing colourbearer had a busy campaign after his Royal Ascot heroics, finishing second later that summer in the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest, as well as the G1 British Champions Sprint Stakes two starts later. Second in the G2 1351 Turf Sprint in Saudi Arabia in February, the five-year-old gelding ran third in the G1 Al Quoz Sprint in March before taking the Prix du Palais Royal on May 21.Richard Brown, racing adviser to owner Wathnan Racing, said, “We were thrilled with Lazzat's prep race win at Longchamp, but unfortunately he's returned sore. All being well, he'll be back in action later in the season. It's rough luck on trainer Jerome Reynier and his team, who have been so dedicated to getting the best out of Lazzat, but the prognosis is positive for the future.”Added Reynier, who has handled Lazzat to win nine of his 17 starts, said, “Lazzat pulled out lame after the race. It's a shame as he looks amazing and is in top form. The good news is, he's got a great temperament which will be sure to help him get through his recuperation.”The post Lazzat Sustains Injury In Palais Royal Victory, Will Miss Royal Ascot appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
