Putting her Newmarket eclipse firmly behind her on Sunday, Precise decisively won the battle of the Ballydoyle starlets in the G1 Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas to complete a weekend Classic double for Starspangledbanner.Passed over by Ryan Moore in preference to the 1,000 Guineas heroine True Love (No Nay Never) in what was always going to be a tight decision, last year's Fillies' Mile and Moyglare Stud Stakes winner came good three weeks on from her relaunch to provide Wayne Lordan with his second Guineas this month in a remarkable twist of fate. This was last year's Precise, travelling with real zest waited with in the centre of the track as the field split into two groups before scything down her stablemate inside the final furlong. At the line, the 4-1 second favourite had 2 1/2 lengths to spare over the 4-6 market-leader, with half a length back to Abashiri (Frankel) in third as the Newmarket form stood up.The winner's electric acceleration, which had prompted Aidan O'Brien to describe her as an “incredible filly” at his Press Day in March, saw her complete the mile in 1:36.98 and provide her trainer with a dozen renewals of the Classic that was his first back in 1997. She was also bred by the O'Briens' own Whisperview Trading.“It's very special, as she's a homebred mare,” the Ballydoyle conditioner said. “It's next to impossible to breed a Classic winner, so I'm delighted for everyone. We knew there was massive improvement to come from Newmarket, but in all fairness to poor Ryan it was very difficult and he had to ride True Love this time.”“We came here thinking it was possible that Precise could go on to Epsom in two weeks and that would be another difficult decision for Ryan with Amelia Earhart there also. She has a lot of stamina in her pedigree. Ryan felt True Love's stamina just ran out over this stiff mile and she could go to the Coronation.”PRECISE Classic redemption in the Irish 1,000 Guineas @Tattersalls1766 | @curraghrace pic.twitter.com/jEO1zwUHUt— Racing TV (@RacingTV) May 24, 2026The post ‘It’s Very Special’: O’Brien In Dreamland As Precise Wins The Irish 1000 Guineas appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
