The Ludhiana police said many cyber fraudsters are exploiting the trend by sending suspicious links and asking recipients to join the Cockroach Janta Party by clicking on them. (File Photo/X/Abhijeet Dipke)The police in Punjab’s Ludhiana issued a public advisory Friday, warning people about possible cyber fraud being carried out in the name of the trending Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), and said that many scammers have been circulating phishing links on WhatsApp under the guise of joining the party.In a video message, Amrinder Singh, an employee of the cyber cell of the Punjab Police, said that the Cockroach Janta Party has become a major talking point across the country, and many people, especially youngsters, are showing enthusiasm towards it. However, Singh said, many cyber fraudsters are exploiting the trend by sending suspicious links and asking recipients to join by clicking on them.Also Read | Would Bhagat Singh join the Cockroach Janta Party?Singh warned that in many cases, these are phishing links and clicking on them can compromise a user’s mobile phone and personal data. “The moment a person clicks on such a link, the phone may get hacked and important information, including bank account details and other personal data stored in the mobile phone, can reach scammers. Singh further appealed to residents to immediately report any cyber-fraud-related issue to the cyber helpline at 1930.The Cockroach Janta Party is a satirical online political movement launched on May 16 by Abhijeet Dipke, a political communications student and former social media volunteer associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
