Is my GOAT washed? Uncanny Valley Kojima stars in AI-slop Prada ad with film director bestie

Wait 5 sec.

Yeah, I know. Another AI story. But this one personally and specifically pissed me off. Below, you will find a short film titled Satellites II starring film director Nicolas Winding Refn and his buddy, video game industry legend Hideo Kojima. And it sucks. It sucks ass. It’s made purely with generative AI technology, it looks awful, and it spit out a very disturbing uncanny valley version of Kojima that I don’t ever wish look at for more than a few seconds. ✨See You in New York✨@Prada With@Kojima_Hideo @kuhlandhan @camsugarmusic pic.twitter.com/HrClMNocqB— byNWR Official (@NicolasWR) May 26, 2026 Satellites II is a part of a collab between the directorial duo and Prada next month for a Tribeca Festival art exhibition “exploring love, language, and creativity through the artists’ enduring dialogue and friendship.” But in the end we did not get art from two talented artists. We got AI slop. To say this is disappointing to me is an understatement. Kojima is one of my favorite creators of all time. Metal Gear Solid shaped my childhood, and even well into my adulthood when I got an Outer Heaven tattoo on my shoulder. His art has always meant a lot to me. But is this news all that surprising? Not really. Kojima’s always been a fan of the most “cutting edge” technology, so him hopping on the generative AI train doesn’t seem all that out of the ordinary, unfortunately. Not to mention most of his works, MGS and Death Stranding included, heavily feature artificial intelligence as part of the plotlines. Creators in the East are also far more open to being exploratory with AI tech than those here in the West, too. But man, this sucks. I can’t speak much for Winding Refn, because other than 2011’s Drive with Ryan Gosling, I haven’t delved too far into his works. And knowing Kojima’s obsession with Hollywood and his pals in the industry like Winding Refn and Oscar-winner Guillermo Del Toro, both of whom had their likenesses scanned into the Death Stranding universe, seeing him hop on the trend with his buddy is not all that much of a shock. Del Toro, on the other hand, famously said last year that he would “rather die” than use generative AI like this whole mess of a video did. I would love to grab his ear and ask a thing or two about his thoughts on this mess. If you ask me? It certainly seems as though my GOAT may be washed up if he continues down this slippery gen-AI slope. What a bummer.0The post Is my GOAT washed?
