normalnormalnormalThe National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), Punjab Chapter, organised a one-day workshop on “Implementing Labour Codes: Common Pitfalls – Do’s & Don’ts” at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chandigarh, attracting participation from more than 140 HR professionals, Industrial Relations(IR) practitioners, business leaders, representing leading organizations from across Northern India. The workshop was inaugurated by the traditional lighting of lamp by chief guest Dr. R.G. Meena, Strategic Advisor on Labour Codes, Government of India and guest of honour Dr. Harish Nayyar, IAS (Retd.), Former Additional Labour Commissioner, Punjab, in presence of other dignitaries.Addressing the gathering, S.P. Bansal, Regional Vice President (North), NIPM, while highlighting NIPM initiatives at the National Level said, “The Labour Codes represent one of the most significant reforms in India’s employment landscape. Their successful implementation will require active collaboration between industry, policymakers and HR professionals. Platforms such as this workshop are essential for enhancing awareness, building capability and ensuring that organizations are fully prepared to embrace the new regulatory framework.”The keynote address was delivered by Dr. R.G. Meena, Strategic Advisor on Labour Codes, Government of India and former Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), who shared valuable perspectives on the evolving labour law framework and emphasized the importance of organizational preparedness for effective implementation of the new Codes.Dr. Hemant Garg, Dy Director ESI Corporation Chandigarh and Punjab Region addressed the audience on the Social Security(SS) Code. He spoke on the SS Code’s implication on organisations with respect to provisions of ESI. CKS Sachdeva touched upon the effect of SS Code on PF, Gratuity etc.In his welcome note, A.K. Bakshi, Chairman, NIPM Punjab Chapter, stated, “The overwhelming participation of more than 140 HR and industry professionals from leading organizations across Northern India reflects the immense interest and importance attached to Labour Code implementation. Through this initiative, NIPM Punjab Chapter sought to bridge the gap between legislation and execution by providing participants direct access to some of the country’s foremost experts on labour laws and industrial relations.The workshop featured a distinguished panel of experts like Dr. R.G. Meena, Senior High Court Adv. P.K. Mutneja, Adv. Viranjeet Singh, CA Vineet Agarwal, CA Amit Gupta from BSR & Co, and others. The sessions comprehensively covered all the four labour codes – the code on wages; code on occupational safety, health and working conditions; industrial relations code; and code on social security, with discussions focusing on wage structuring, compensation redesign, workplace safety, industrial dispute resolution, retrenchment provisions, trade unions, ESI, EPF, gratuity, and social security coverage for gig and platform workers.Dr. Harish Nayyar, IAS (Retd.) and Adv. Anil Sood participated in a panel on IR Code clarifying changes with respect to adjudication, conflict resolution, changes in retrenchment policies, layoff, strikes and trade unions’ recognition.Participants benefited from practical insights, case studies, compliance strategies, and interactive discussions on emerging challenges and best practices.The workshop concluded with a valedictory session, certificates’ distribution and vote of thanks by Chapter Vice Chairman Jasbir Singh.
