Australian Parliamentary Group for Tibet Congratulates Sikyong Penpa Tsering on Re-election, Reaffirms His Holiness’ Reincarnation Must Remain Free from Chinese Government InterferenceCanberra: The All-Party Australian Parliamentary Group for Tibet (AAPGT) has extended its congratulations to Sikyong Penpa Tsering on his re-election as Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration.On behalf of the Group, co-chairs Susan Templeman MP (Labor Party), Senator Dean Smith (Liberal Party), and Senator Barbara Pocock (Australian Greens) have today written to Sikyong Penpa Tsering to convey their best wishes and reaffirm their continued support for the Tibetan cause.“Your re-election with a decisive mandate reflects the confidence and trust the Tibetan people have placed in your leadership. We wish you every success as you continue working to fulfil the hopes and aspirations of the Tibetan people,” the co-chairs said.The co-chairs further stated that the AAPGT “remains steadfast in its support for the Tibetan people’s freedom, dignity, and fundamental human rights, and continues to advocate for a peaceful and negotiated resolution to the Sino–Tibet conflict through meaningful dialogue.”They also reaffirmed their position that the succession or reincarnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a matter of religious freedom and spiritual tradition, and must remain free from any interference by the Chinese government.The co-chairs also extended a warm welcome for his visit to Australia, stating, “We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you to Australia in the near future.”– Report filed by Office of Tibet, Canberra
