Alex Borg Could Become The World’s Youngest Prime Minister This Weekend… And The Second Youngest Ever

Wait 5 sec.

Should PN leader Alex Borg end up being elected as the new Maltese Prime Minister this weekend, he’d be breaking a number of records in the process. With just over a week before he turns 31, Borg would become the youngest sitting prime minister in the world, beating Finland’s Sanna Marin by nearly two years. But it doesn’t even stop there. There’s only one more prime minister who’s ever been elected while younger than 30 years old, and that’s British politician William Pitt the Younger, who was elected into office at 24 all the way back in 1804. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)As far as Malta’s political history goes, meanwhile, Sir Ugo Pasquale Mifsud holds the current record of youngest ever prime minister, when he was elected at the age of 34 all the way back in 1924. Pasquale Mifsud led the Nationalist Party when Malta was still under British home role, and went on to serve a second term in 1932.Since Malta gained independence, two Labour politicians hold the record for youngest prime ministers – Dom Mintoff (38) and Joseph Muscat (39). PN’s George Borg Olivier, meanwhile, was also 39 when he became prime minister, but was technically a couple of months older than Muscat when he first took office in 1950.So while the current surveys show it might not be very likely that Alex Borg and PN emerge victorious this weekend, there’s a lot of history on the line.Do you think Alex Borg has what it takes to become Malta’s next prime minister?•
