Auston Trusty, Celtic win Scottish Cup to complete domestic double

Auston Trusty and Celtic capped off their domestic schedule on Saturday by earning a second trophy life of the season.Trusty played 90 minutes in Celtic’s 3-1 Scottish Cup Final win over Dunfermline Athletic, closing out a domestic double for Martin O’Neill’s squad. It marked Trusty’s fourth trophy with Celtic since joining in August 2024.Daizen Maeda propelled the Scottish Premiership winners in front after 19 minutes, chipping Aston Oxborough from inside the box for a 1-0 lead. Arne Engels doubled Celtic’s advantage before halftime, drilling home a left-footed shot from long range. Kelechi Iheanacho added Celtic’s third of the afternoon by finishing off Benjamin Nygren’s pass into the back of the net. Nygren played Iheanacho into the box before the veteran striker danced past Oxborough and slotted home into an empty net.Josh Cooper pulled one goal back for Neil Lennon’s squad with 10 minutes to play but it would be a mere consolation in the final scoreline.Trusty finished his season with 41 appearances across all competitions, capping off a second positive campaign in Glasgow. The U.S. men’s national team defender will now aim for a call-up for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in June.In addition, fellow American defender Cameron Carter-Vickers lifted his 11th trophy with the club. Carter-Vickers had been sidelined since suffering a torn Achilles tendon in October.Celtic’s league title guarantees them a spot into the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League playoff round.
