Nah I think it’s warranted. Appropriate toys for a five year old wouldn’t include carbon monoxide detectors….unless of course that kid was autistic and it was his narrow interest, then it totally tracks. My nephew is 5, level 2 autistic and he would MUCH rather take apart hairdryers with a screwdriver than play with toys designed for his typically-developing same age peers.
