Malta Biennale 2026 Closes After Major International Edition

Malta Biennale 2026 has officially come to an end after an 11-week run across Malta and Gozo.This year’s edition featured more than 130 artists from over 50 countries, with exhibitions and events hosted across 11 Heritage Malta sites and museums in Valletta, Vittoriosa, Xagħra and Victoria.Malta Biennale President Mario Cutajar described the second edition as a key milestone for the future of the Biennale, saying it strengthened both Heritage Malta’s vision and Malta’s international cultural visibility.Meanwhile, Myriam Spiteri Debono said the Biennale transformed the country into “an open space for creativity, dialogue and reflection”, while helping strengthen Malta’s reputation as a centre for contemporary art and cultural exchange.Titled Clean | Clear | Cut, the international exhibition was curated by acclaimed artistic director Rosa Martínez and focused on the dialogue between contemporary art and Malta’s cultural heritage.The Biennale also featured workshops, performances, satellite events and artist-led activities aimed at audiences of all ages.Should Malta host more international cultural events like this?•
