President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has congratulated Jacob Oboth Oboth upon being voted into office as the Speaker of the 12th Uganda Parliament.With 441 votes, Oboth Oboth emerged as the winner at the election held at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on 25th May 2026.The sitting attended by President Yoweri Museveni and presided over by the Chief Justice, also reinstated Thomas Tayebwa as the Deputy Speaker.Speaking at the sitting, H.E Museveni noted that the voting exercise was transparent and peaceful, before congratulating the new parliamentary leaders in their respective offices.President Museveni skips Arsenal celebrations, prioritizes local footballI congratulate the Rt. I am directing NRM leaders to return to the parishes and ensure that existing government programmes are lifting people out of poverty.I do not want to hear excuses about poverty while solutions already exist. Ministers and government officials who fail in this responsibility will be held accountable. This is Kisanja no sleep .
