Alan Pardew has backed Scott Parker to take over West Ham should Nuno Espirito Santo depart in the wake of their relegation. The Hammers’ drop to the Championship was confirmed on Sunday despite a 3-0 win over Leeds at the London Stadium.Nuno couldn’t save West Ham from the dropGettyWest Ham needed Tottenham to lose against Everton, but Joao Palhinha’s strike ensured Roberto De Zerbi’s side would not slide into the second tier as they beat the Toffees 1-0.A number of major player sales at West Ham are now expected as they look to climb out of an impending financial hole, with captain Jarrod Bowen looming as a likely candidate for a summer departure. But Bowen may not be the only high-profile exit from east London in the coming months, as talkSPORT previously reported in the Transfer Notebook there is doubt over Nuno’s future at the club. The 52-year-old was appointed last September on a three-year deal but ultimately failed to steer the Hammers away from trouble.Despite having plenty of time left on his contract with the Hammers, Pardew claimed on talkSPORT’s Final Word that Nuno may not be in his post for West Ham’s first Championship campaign in 14 years.Pardew: It could ‘suit all parties’ for Nuno to leaveAnd the former West Ham boss added Parker, who was last at Burnley, is a name that ‘keeps coming up’ in discussions over who would be next in the London Stadium dugout.“The interesting thing from what I’m hearing, which is strange noises from some sources close to me are suggesting Nuno might not be there,” Pardew said.“Not in the form of being sacked, because I think he’s tried to do a decent job and I think he’s had a good go at it in the second part of the season. “But maybe it will suit all parties for him to go and get someone experienced who knows the Championship like Scott Parker, whose name keeps coming up. That’s not from one source, that’s three or four sources. “It will be interesting to see.”The Portuguese has been tipped by Pardew to be a free agent in the near futureGettyNuno already boasts Championship experience having steered Wolves to the league title in the 2017/18 season. But Parker is far more credentialed at that level having overseen promotions to the Premier League at Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley.ParklifeThe 45-year-old earned automatic promotion with Bournemouth and Burnley while Fulham went up via the play-offs.Another benefit to Parker’s potential appointment is that he is a free agent having left Burnley in April, eight days after their relegation back to the Championship was confirmed.Parker is a known quantity to Hammers supporters having spent four seasons at the club during his playing days. The ex-midfielder, who was named West Ham’s Hammer of the Year three seasons running, even scooped up the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award while at the club.Parker could get a fourth different club promoted from the Championship if he ends up at West HamGettyShould Parker be appointed, Pardew offered some words of warning regarding the likely squad overhaul that would await.“One thing I do know about the Championship, 46 games, you’ve got to have a team that can produce every three days,” Pardew said.“Sometimes Premier League players, if you bring in big internationals, they just can’t cope with it. They find it very, very difficult. “So you do kind of need to have a real good look at the structure and understand which players are going to cope with it and which ones won’t, which ones you’re really going to have to cash in on and use the money or a percentage of the money to rebuild. “In a way, it’s a reset.”
