8th-CD, $127k, AOC ($125k), 3yo, 6f, 4:22 p.m.A pair of big-figure 'TDN Rising Stars' presented by Hagyard from the back end of the meet at Oaklawn Park square off here with an eye on bigger and better down the road. Novogratz Racing Stables' MUNNINGS CHALLENGE (Munnings) showed sharp early speed on Mar. 1 debut before settling for second, but took them all the way last time Apr. 11, defeating Doublecents (Goldencents) by five resounding lengths, good for a 94 Beyer Speed Figure. He is a son of Novogratz's outstanding five-time stakes winner and Grade I-placed Amy's Challenge (Artie Schiller). Doublecents was crunched into 3-5 favoritism for his second start on May 2 and turned it on in the final furlong to score by 11 1/2 lengths en route to a 96 Beyer in a contest that was significantly slower early, but much faster late when compared to Munnings Challenge. The bay, a daughter of SW & GSP Salamera (Successful Appeal), has but one appearance since, a distant runner-up effort to then-stablemate Tenma (Nyquist) in the GIII Las Virgenes Stakes in February 2025. The bay filly will race with Lasix for the first time in her career.
