John Mallia has publicly expressed his disappointment after revealing details about failed attempts to organise a debate between Malta’s two political leaders.In a Facebook post, Mallia said organisers had contacted both major parties three weeks ago and discussed three potential dates for the debate.According to him, the Nationalist Party had reserved two dates for the event, while the Labour Party allegedly delayed confirming its participation for weeks. Mallia claimed that organisers repeatedly followed up, even offering to adjust timings to accommodate schedules, but said several messages were ignored.He explained that after eventually announcing the official debate date, organisers continued contacting Castille daily.However, according to Mallia, at around 9am on the day of the debate, organisers finally received a message stating: “We will not be attending.”“The disappointment was great,” Mallia wrote, saying the intention had simply been to provide the Maltese public with a “researched, sober and honest debate.”While acknowledging that it is the Prime Minister’s prerogative to decide which events to attend, Mallia ended the post with a pointed remark:“Just as it is the prerogative of the Maltese public to ask why.”What do you make of this?•
