/u/EmployPutrid5016 on Nanny in exchange for room….that you have to share with a toddler 😆

Wait 5 sec.

Idk. I kinda see where you're coming from but I've also worked doing chores and cooking for a room before when I was trying to save money. It was a good gig for me and let me save money when others my age without financial support from family were not as privileged. I also let my siblings live with me with a similar situation. I'm not giving them a free ride because they're old enough to not be mooching. Therefore they can pay me any combination of rent/chores. I made enough chores that they could cover their rent entirely if they didn't want to pay any money that month. I agree that housing is a human right. At the same time, housing them isn't MY responsibility. They're entitled to housing, but not MY housing if that makes sense. If we flipped the script and said a renter was looking for free housing in exchange for maintaining the home, people would call them a CB that needs to get a job. I also get that not everyone is in the same place or situation. My BIL ended up just paying the rent once he got a job because he didn't like cleaning up after other people. The situation was mutually beneficial for all of us and helped him gain financial independence. My sister still does chores for half of her rent on average so she can afford her lifestyle while still putting some money away each month. To each their own 🤷‍♀️
