RAJUMembers of the Andhra Pradesh Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA), Resource Persons Employees’ Union held a demonstration in Visakhapatnam on Monday, marching from the GVMC Gandhi Statue to the office of the Urban Community Development Project Director (UCDPD), where they submitted a collective representation letter listing a series of long-pending grievances.The employees, who work as Resource Persons organising Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas (DWCRA) self-help groups under the MEPMA, said their monthly salaries had not been paid for three months and demanded that the arrears be cleared without deductions. They also urged that the minimum wage be revised to ₹26,000 per month, describing it as an all-India demand.P. Mani, president of the union’s Visakha District Committee, said the sudden removal of the online updating option from the app used to record DWCRA group meetings had put the May salary of Resource Persons in jeopardy.The employees flagged the mounting workload from the ongoing Census, Swachha Survekshan, Mobile Bookkeeping, Micro Credit Plan, and Employees' Upgradation Plan, alongside their regular duties. “RPs should not be burdened with such a workload where their salary is spent on medical bills,” she said.The union demanded immediate restoration of login access for Resource Persons whose credentials had been suspended, stating this was affecting their ability to work and, consequently, their salaries.During teleconferences, employees noted that sessions currently running from 7 a.m. to 12 noon were consuming prime fieldwork hours. “After these lengthy teleconferences, we are left with no battery in the mobile to continue doing our work, especially the census,” said P. Mani.The union demanded that teleconferences be shortened and rescheduled between 12 noon and 4 p.m.Published - May 25, 2026 07:56 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
