THE RUNDOWNEuphoria’s latest episode contained a shocking twist.Jacob Elordi’s character ended up in horrifying circumstances. The actor reflected on how the scene came together in a post-episode interview. On Sunday night, Euphoria aired “Rain or Shine,” the seventh episode of the HBO hit’s third season (warning: spoilers ahead). The show had been hinting at a possible death this season for one of the main characters, but viewers were shocked to see Nate, played by Jacob Elordi, die in one of the most horrifying ways possible: locked in a coffin and bitten by a rattlesnake. In a post-episode interview, Elordi shared some thoughts on the practical effects that made the scene so skin-crawlingly scary.“That was a cool way to go. Nate was someone who has made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices,” he reflected during the conversation. “It’s cool to see it all come to what it’s come to.”He described how the scene was achieved, saying he was actually drilled into the coffin for certain shots.“My shoulders were touching the side and they couldn’t move my arms,” Elordi explained. “Then they would drill the lid on it and it would get dark. It was really nice, actually. It was quite peaceful in there.”Though some shots were of a real rattlesnake, the animal inside the coffin with Elordi was actually a boa constrictor in a costume.“Snakes were rattling, which was really alarming when you are locked in a box,” Elordi said. “They had a boa constrictor that they put a fake rattler on the end of it.”He continued, “He was super cute. He was really cuddly. So he kind of just sidled up next to me and it was nice. But he was really sleepy. He was a sleepy snake. I had to kind of nudge him to get him to come up. And that was it.”Elordi said it wasn’t the easiest goodbye.“It’s a bittersweet thing,” he said. “This show is a massive part of—not just my career—but my life. It’s been amazing and I’m so proud of being a part of this.”
