Tottenham Hotspur have done what many have thought to be the impossible, surviving the dreaded Premier League relegation scrap.Despite that, at a point, they were drifting three points away from safety, Roberto De Zerbi managed to galvanize the ailing side and inspire them to an impressive 11 points from 5 matches. In the end, Spurs had to have shown they were a Premier League-worthy side. West Ham did all they could by piling on the pressure on Tottenham with their emphatic 3-0 win over Leeds, and anything less than a positive result for Spurs would have seen them relegated. But it was not to be. Tottenham managed to put in a mature performance, and their 1-0 win over Everton sees them over the line, securing Premier League status for next season and relegating West Ham in the process. Here are our five takeaways. Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramTottenham avoid an embarrassment for the ages and remain a Premier League ever-present Here’s for stating the obvious, but the Lilywhites survival in the Premier League was far from a certainty since at least January. But their win today means that they will continue to enjoy all the lucrative benefits of Premier League status and won’t be forced into selling many of their star players, something that was a tangible possibility if Spurs made the drop. Their place in the top-flight similarly means that the transfer plans that hinged on their survival can now begin to be implemented. The domestic season performance also spares Tottenham the demands of European football next season, something that might come as a blessing in disguise given their small squad, and with a lot of their attacking players not scheduled to return until early next season. For now, Tottenham Hotspur will remain in the exclusive group of clubs never to have been relegated from the Premier League, alongside Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Everton, and Liverpool. This season must never again be allowed to happen at Tottenham Hotspur, and those responsible must be held to accountSimply speaking, Spurs do not belong at this end of the table. If Tottenham were to be relegated today, they would enter the Championship as the richest club in the competition’s history.Spurs’ profitability and the many financial advantages that they possess should, in theory, have prevented a season such as this one from happening. The years of mismanagement, poor recruitment, and even worse managerial selections put Spurs on this downward spiral of failure, which nearly ended in disaster. But it seems that ENIC, the club’s owners, were given yet another chance to right their wrongs and ensure success on the pitch. And it honestly probably starts with holding responsible those who engineered the conditions that made this season a possibility…The Spurs fans should never allow themselves to be antagonised againA certain writer for The Times, in a recent column, said that “Tottenham supporters have practically engineered the club’s crisis.”Today truly shows how utterly uninformed that opinion was, because despite the many difficulties that this season has brought, the Tottenham fans have supported the players when it mattered most.Even when suffering from constant antagonisms from Thomas Frank, the players, and a large section of the press, the Tottenham fans were stalwart in their commitment to high standards and good football. And through all the booing, perhaps if their dislike of Thomas Frank had been any less vocal, the Dane would have stayed for longer, and Tottenham Hotspur would now be licking their wounds in the Championship.Even when things were at their bleakest, when Spurs needed results against Brighton or Leeds, or ahead of the game against Nottingham Forest, and when the side continued to sleepwalk towards relegation under Igor Tudor, the Spurs faithful showed up with a show of support that the team frankly did not justify. The Spurs fans deserve to hold their heads higher than the players today.Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramKevin Danso could create a legacy at SpursTo bring it back to the matters on the pitch, Kevin Danso put in another imperious performance at the back, and the Spurs backline has looked more comfortable since he came into the side than when led by Cristian Romero.Every time Danso puts on the Tottenham Hotspur shirt, he leaves absolutely everything on the pitch. Today, his commitment was invaluable for securing the three points and Premier League survival. His reliability and great attitude mean that he could stay at Spurs for years and create a hard-working legacy akin to the now-departing Ben Davies.Antonin Kinsky could be the number one next seasonRumours emerged last week that Antonin Kinsky was set to undergo a minor medical procedure after the Premier League season ended, meaning that he would miss out on this summer’s World Cup but would be back in the Tottenham camp to compete for the number one shirt next season. And there is no reason that Antonín Kinsky couldn’t make the number one shirt his, regardless of whether Vicario stays in the club or not. It was nigh unimaginable for a young keeper to suffer as much as he did during that horrid night at the Estadio Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid, and still come back to be, arguably, one of Tottenham’s most valuable players under Roberto De Zerbi.Kinsky again pulled off a clutch save at the death to preserve the scoreline, but more than that, he showed that no kind of setback can affect him.READ MORE: Tottenham full time player ratings vs Everton – Spurs avoid relegation from the Premier LeagueThe post Five things we learned as Tottenham avoid relegation with 1-0 Everton win appeared first on Spurs Web.
