Wow! Meanwhile my kid was dx in 1995 and I had another parent from a support group the doctor set me up with tell me about it. Told me it would take a bit to be approved but he was approved first round. He was on SSI before my husband died, now on SSDI from my late husband's work history. The kid does not want autism. I'd give back every penny and pay more if it would take it away from him. He is heartbroken at least weekly that he is not neurotypical. He has written comparative lists of what his life would be like if he didn't have it, and not kind to himself lists on what he feels his life is.
