Square Enix will share Dragon Quest series plans and game update news during a 40th anniversary worldwide stream this week. The first game appeared on the Famicom on May 27, 1986 in Japan, and the presentation will air at 6am PT/9am ET/3pm CET/10pm JST on May 27, 2026. The YouTube stream page is already live. The YouTube page’s description noted this will be a 10 minute presentation. There are a few games we could see during it. One is Dragon Quest XII, which we haven’t seen any updates on in a few years. One of the last notes on it came up in 2024, when Yuji Horii said progress is “coming along.” We might find out if we’ll see the offline version of Dragon Quest X worldwide. As folks on Resetera pointed out at the end of April 2026, Dragon Quest XI S got a Switch 2 rating in Taiwan, so we could see that launch on another platform very soon.
