The name of Tottenham captain Cristian Romero has apparently been mentioned at an internal meeting of London rivals, Chelsea, with one Blues star pushing for his signing.Cristian Romero has been one of the more divisive Spurs captains in recent history. He took over the captaincy at the beginning of the season from undisputed Spurs legend Heung-Min Son.But Romero’s unavailability, patchy disciplinary record, and Spurs’ awful form this season in general, earned the Argentine a sizeable group of detractors. With Romero sidelined by a ligament injury and his long-term future with the club rumoured to be uncertain, more rumours linking Romero to other clubs are emerging by the day.Credit: Tottenham HotspurEnzo Fernandez wants Chelsea to sign Cristian Romero from TottenhamDuring talks over his contract extension with Chelsea, their midfield star Enzo Fernandez apparently told the club owners to sign Cristian Romero, TEAMTalk report.Alike Romero, Fernandez’s club future remains uncertain. The midfielder was involved in a controversy regarding his comments earlier this season, but apparently, Chelsea are trying to tie him down with a new long-term contract.According to TEAMtalk, Fernandez wants more proven and experienced players to come into the club and mentioned Cristian Romero, one of the captains of his national team, as a name he would like to see come through the doors at Chelsea.Spurs do have a Romero transfer strategyRomero himself signed a new, improved contract at the beginning of last season, tying him to the club until 2029. But according to reports, the relationship between Romero and the club has soured, and Spurs could be willing to sell their captain if their price is met.Tottenham currently value Romero at around £70 million and would likely demand their valuation be met, especially if they avoid relegation and aren’t pressured into making emergency sales.A move to Chelsea, however, might be seen as impossible to accept for the Tottenham failure, especially with the fanbase already having some traumatic experience with a centre back changing Spurs for another London rival.Romero isn’t exactly popular among Tottenham fans at the moment though, after choosing to fly back home to Argentina to support his boyhood club instead of watching the Everton game. It’s difficult to predict whether Romero will definitely leave Tottenham in the summer, as playing under new manager Roberto De Zerbi could be a different proposition for the Argentine. But if Romero is to leave, fans will hope that a side from outside of England will meet their valuation, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid the likely candidates.READ MORE: Tottenham fans plan owner protest for Everton match, but there is one big catchThe post Enzo Fernandez urges Chelsea to sign Tottenham star who is unpopular with Spurs fans now appeared first on Spurs Web.
