Aħwa Maltin held a press conference outside Parliament yesterday outlining a series of policy positions ahead of the election.Among its most notable proposals was a plan to remove Malta’s current legal ban on conversion therapy for LGBTIQ persons. The party framed the proposal in terms of individual choice, arguing that adults should be free to pursue any form of therapy provided it does not cause physical harm. It also stated that it would oppose similar bans at European level. In addition, Aħwa Maltin said it would seek to enshrine the right to life in the Constitution, review the 2023 amendments to the Criminal Code relating to abortion, and abolish the Human Rights Directorate. The proposals place the party at odds with Malta’s legislative direction in recent years on LGBTIQ rights. What do you make of this?Credit: TVM News•
