There’s finally news on Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, the next mainline entry in the JRPG series, though its subtitled changed to Beyond Dreams and scope changed. Executive Producer Yosuke Saito and Game Programmer Yuji Horii offered another update during the “Update from the Dragon Quest Team” special video presentation on May 27, 2026. It is in development, with the team “hard at work,” but it “hit a lot of hurdles” and so Saito and Horii decided to “start over from scratch.” However, there’s a new trailer that shows the new hero, some allies, and the world we’ll explore. Square Enix first announced this new mainline Dragon Quest entry on the 35th anniversary of the series back on May 27, 2021. At that time, it only noted it would be “darker” and utilize a new “command battle” system. Later that year, HexaDrive shared a notice that it was searching for developers. A few years later in 2023, an updated logo appeared. One of the last times it came up was when Yuji Horii discussed it when talking about Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama in May 2024.  You can see the full update video and teaser trailer in the announcement below. The description noted the hero is experiencing strange dreams as the game begins. Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate now has the subtitle Beyond Dreams and is in development. The post Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate Now Beyond Dreams appeared first on Siliconera.
