Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make major changes behind the scenes this summer, with Johan Lange’s future now reportedly hanging in the balance after another disastrous domestic campaign. After escaping relegation by just two points following a nervy final-day outing against Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, attention has now turned towards rebuilding the Tottenham squad this summer. The rebuild will not only involve improving personnel on the pitch, but also changes in the boardroom as Spurs attempt to recover from a dismal season.Spurs Web has already reported that Tottenham remain on the lookout for a sporting director, with Sebastien Kehl expected to take the role. Our report at the time stated he would make the move should Spurs retain their Premier League status.Credit: Tottenham Hotspur / YouTubeTottenham could replace Johan Lange after poor seasonSpurs Web also reported on potential boardroom changes that could see Toby Alderweireld return alongside Ben Davies, as Tottenham considers hiring people with footballing experience. This comes after reports claimed that when non-executive chairman Peter Charrington was hired, he had little knowledge about football.Still, in a message to fans, the non-executive chairman claimed the focus at Spurs would now turn to transfer plans, with those higher up at Tottenham committed to rebuilding the club. However, football.london is now reporting that the changes expected at boardroom level could involve the departure of sporting director Johan Lange. The Danish football executive has been at the club for two seasons and was promoted from technical director to sporting director last year. During that period, Spurs have struggled domestically, recording back-to-back 17th-place finishes, although they did end their long trophy drought under Ange Postecoglou two seasons ago. Many of the signings brought in under Lange have spent lengthy spells on the sidelines through injury, although it should also be noted that several of Tottenham’s brightest young talents, including Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, arrived during his time at the club.It is now believed that figures both inside and outside the north London club feel it is unlikely Lange survives the year as Tottenham’s leading football figurehead after such a poor campaign. However, if he does remain, it is expected to be in a supporting role to a new sporting director or in a handover capacity.Sebastien Kehl linked with Spurs sporting director roleSebastien Kehl appears the most likely candidate to replace Lange, as mentioned previously. But should that fall through, Tottenham still have a host of other sporting director they have been keeping tabs on since the winter transfer window.Kehl, however, has extensive experience in the role following his stint with Borussia Dortmund, a club widely recognised for its ability to identify and develop young talent.Tottenham will now need to finalise the appointment of a new football director quickly, as preparations for next season’s transfer plans continue. Whether that will be Lange remains to be seen.READ MORE: Tottenham fans will be delighted by the latest Dejan Kulusevski injury updateThe post Tottenham weigh up Johan Lange’s future and we may already know his replacement appeared first on Spurs Web.
