Some gaming legends never die, whether it be due to their status in pop culture, or ongoing updates. The Witcher 3 seems to be a bit of both. CD PROJEKT RED announced today that The Witcher 3 will be receiving a new, full-fledged expansion in 2027, a whopping dozen years after the original game launched way back on May 18, 2015, and it’ll be starring the legendary Geralt of Rivia. Image via CD Projekt Red The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt- Songs of the Past was revealed by the developer today ahead of a live stream event tomorrow due to an oopsie of it appearing a bit early on the RED Launcher. The announcement blasted off to 25,000 reposts and over seven million views on Twitter/X within five hours. Nothing else was teased about the new expansion other than it’s coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it’s being co-developed with The Thaumaturge studio Fool’s Theory. Other than that, more information is coming in “late summer.” The studio did say that the expansion will come with some updated PC requirements, however, now recommending a minimum of a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 or AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB GPU, 6 GB of VRAM, and 12 GB of RAM. Here, I must admit my shame that I have not played the Witcher franchise. I enjoyed the first couple seasons of the Netflix show very much, but I tried playing the original game many years ago and got put off by how aged it felt. I imagine that wouldn’t change now, but I’m stoked for all of the fans of the franchise who get something new this many years later. I guess this year is as good a time as any to catch up on The Witcher 3 in time for Songs of the Past in 2027, in preparation for The Witcher 4 starring Ciri some time after that.0The post Somehow, Geralt returned: New Witcher 3 expansion coming 12 years after launch appeared first on Destructoid.
