Very true! We've also gotten to believe that treats equal lots of money. If you aren't eating at an expensive restaurant, going on a fancy vacation, bought the name-brand handbag, etc. then it's not a "real" treat. Why can't someone be happy browsing through their local thrift store and finding something that catches their eye? Why can't they just take a day trip using the library's free passes to visit a nearby museum, zoo or aquarium? Heck, even taking my dogs for a walk in the local park on a sunny afternoon feels like a treat to me! IMO the answer to this is the lack of bragging rights. Many people now don't care about the thing itself as much as the ability to post on social media. And they truly believe that no one will be impressed or envious unless they can show off a certain caliber of item or experience...which is sad for a number of reasons. But, this is all going into a whole other topic.
