More than 93% of eligible voters are now in possession of their voting document, the Electoral Commission announced during a press conference yesterday. As of Monday morning, 334,481 voting documents had already been collected, leaving 22,333 voting documents still unclaimed- just over 6% of voters according to TVM News. These documents may be collected until midnight on Thursday from the Vote Counting Complex in Naxxar or the Electoral Office in Rabat, Gozo.Collection has been taking place daily since Monday morning, with offices open throughout the day except between 1pm and 3pm.Chief Electoral Commissioner Joseph Camilleri also confirmed that, following an agreement between the Electoral Commission and the Police, the display of votes on Sunday will begin at 9am.Speaking to TVMNews, Camilleri explained that voters who lose their voting document may still vote if they contact or visit the Electoral Office and request what is known as a special vote. This can be done until Wednesday at 9pm. After that deadline, lost voting documents can no longer be replaced.Camilleri outlined the schedule for the electoral process this week. Today, police officers and Assistant Electoral Commissioners assigned to polling stations, numbering more than 6,800 people, will cast their votes, while hospital patients will vote on Thursday.Friday will be observed as the Day of Silence, during which political propaganda is prohibited. The same restrictions apply on Saturday, when voting will take place between 7am and 10pm at the polling station listed on each voter’s document.Priority in queues will be given at all times to persons aged 75 and over, as well as persons with disabilities. Voters aged between 60 and 75 will receive priority between 1pm and 5pm.The Chief Electoral Commissioner also reminded the public that gathering or loitering near polling stations is not allowed, while the use of electronic devices and the taking of photos or videos inside polling stations are prohibited.Camilleri also advised voters who make a genuine mistake while marking their ballot paper to immediately hand it to Assistant Electoral Commissioners so it can be cancelled and replaced with a new ballot paper. He stressed that requesting a replacement is preferable to continuing to mark the ballot paper and risking invalidating the vote.Work inside the Vote Counting Hall will begin at 10pm on Saturday after polling stations close. Early voting boxes will be opened and ballots placed face down into cardboard boxes before all locality boxes are processed. The second phase will begin at 9am on Sunday, when ballots are shown individually and scanned. Once all ballots and doubtful votes are processed, the Electoral Commission will activate the “count engine”, which will generate the result within seconds, including the five elected candidates per district.Camilleri estimated the result will be ready by around 8pm on Sunday, after which party delegates will have up to four hours to confirm agreement before the Electoral Commission officially publishes the result.Have you picked up your voting documents yet?•
