Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ian Borg, has strongly condemned Russia’s latest large-scale attack on Ukraine, describing strikes targeting civilians as “unacceptable”.The statement came after Russia launched one of its largest waves of attacks on Ukraine in recent months, firing hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles overnight. Kyiv was among the main targets, with residential buildings, a school, an opera house and a museum reportedly damaged during the strikes, while multiple people were killed and dozens injured. In a statement shared online, Borg said the attacks constitute “a grave violation of international law” and stressed that those responsible “must be held accountable”.“Malta’s solidarity with Ukrainian people remains unwavering as well as our commitment to support Ukraine’s resilience and sovereignty,” Borg added.Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha later publicly thanked Borg for Malta’s support and condemnation of the attacks.“Russia responds to all peace efforts with more missiles, drones, and terror against innocent people,” Sybiha wrote, adding that pressure on Moscow must increase to push Russia toward peace. The exchange comes amid continued Russian missile and drone strikes across Ukraine as the war continues. What do you make of Malta’s position on Ukraine?•
