Micky Van de Ven believes Tottenham must focus on the positives under Roberto De Zerbi despite their painful defeat to Chelsea.Tottenham Hotspur missed the opportunity to secure Premier League safety after falling to a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night. Spurs needed just a point to guarantee survival, but the result means their fate will now be decided on the final day of the season against Everton.Roberto De Zerbi has already admitted that Sunday’s clash feels even bigger than Tottenham’s Europa League final triumph last year, given what is at stake, and it is difficult to disagree.Despite the pressure, Spurs still hold the advantage over 18th-placed West Ham United, who remain two points behind them. Simply avoiding defeat against Everton should be enough for the Lilywhites to stay up regardless of West Ham’s result, thanks to their superior goal difference.A huge reason Tottenham even remain in that position is because of the turnaround De Zerbi has managed since arriving at the club. The Chelsea defeat was actually Spurs’ first loss in five matches, and Micky Van de Ven believes there are still plenty of positives to take heading into the season finale.Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramMicky Van de Ven praises Roberto De Zerbi impact at TottenhamSpeaking to Sky Sports after the defeat at Stamford Bridge, Van de Ven insisted Tottenham should not view the Chelsea result as a major setback.“I wouldn’t say Chelsea was a step back,” the defender said.“That was the first loss in five games. There were so many things that could’ve changed the situation. If you flip the penalty moment, we could get a draw. In the last 20 minutes, we played good offensive football. There’s also, of course, a lot of things that we can learn from that game, but all the positives we can take into Everton.”Van de Ven admitted Tottenham should never have found themselves in a relegation battle but praised the impact De Zerbi has already made in such a short period.“I think lately we’ve shown our quality. We’ve shown how we can play and obviously for a club like Tottenham, it shouldn’t be possible that we’re in the situation we’re in right now.“We brought ourselves into this situation, but if you see how we have played lately and since Roberto came in, the positiveness of how we play now and the more offensive football we play, I think we just need to stay up.“We just need to make sure we get the three points against Everton and be done with everything that’s happened, leave it behind us.”Tottenham’s home form remains a worrying concernThere are reasons for optimism heading into Sunday, given Everton have won only once in their previous 16 visits to Tottenham. However, Spurs’ own home record this season remains a huge concern. Tottenham have not won at home in the league since early December and have managed just two home victories all campaign. When asked why Spurs have struggled so badly at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, Van de Ven admitted even the players cannot fully explain it.“It’s so difficult to say,” he said. “The home form hasn’t been acceptable, but there’s not something going on when we play a home game. I’ve seriously no clue, but that’s also the past and we have a massive game on Sunday now to change that and win at home.“I think that’s the most important thing. And we’re going to need the fans for that, and we know they’re going to stand behind us.”Tottenham will now hope Van de Ven is right and that the supporters can help drag the team over the line one final time this season.READ MORE: Roberto De Zerbi ‘personally requests’ Tottenham fan rally to meet the coach vs EvertonThe post ‘A club like Tottenham’ – Micky Van de Ven sends one last rallying cry ahead of Everton showdown appeared first on Spurs Web.
