They had to win to stay up on Saturday, but a 1-1 draw with Elche meant they finished second-bottom of the league. Their relegation comes as a shock, with their squad including some star-studded names and Premier League loanees.Vitor Reis joined the club from Man City on loan last summer, while Claudio Echeverri made the same move in January.20-year-old defender Reis played 38 times for Girona throughout the season, putting in some strong performances and scoring once.Meanwhile, Echeverri spent the first half of the campaign at Bayer Leverkusen before heading to Spain in the new year. Axel Witsel and Cristhian Stuani will leave after experiencing a devastating final-day relegation from La Liga.Witsel, who has played over 136 games for Belgium and is heading to the 2026 World Cup, departs after one year.Meanwhile, ex-Premier League striker Stuani departs as a club legend, having played 311 games for Girona, scoring 147 goals.
