HOW-TO: Reading Strong Trends with Power BarsMicron Technology, Inc.BATS:MUDrOkanErol Profiterol Power Bars makes strong trends visible at a glance through sustained bright color. This guide is a reading reference for the anatomy of a strong trend: what one looks like through the indicator, how to read pauses inside a trend, and how to recognize a regime change. Nothing here prescribes a trading action. Readers form their own interpretation. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHAT A STRONG TREND LOOKS LIKE A strong trend appears in the indicator as sustained bright color in one half of the spectrum. A sustained bright-green stretch communicates a market in extended bullish strength. The bars need not all be at the extreme color: the reading often lives in the green half with occasional dips toward teal during minor pullbacks. The character is durable green, not isolated green bars. The same holds in the bearish direction. Extended sequences in the red half of the spectrum mark periods of durable bearish conviction. The longer the sequence in one half of the spectrum, the longer the trend has been operating. A few bars of bright color is a spike. Many bars of sustained color is a trend. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ PAUSES WITHIN A TREND Strong trends are rarely uniform. The indicator often shifts through the transitional band even within a trend that ultimately continues. A short brand-blue patch surrounded by bright green is a pause inside an uptrend. The trend is taking a breath, not changing direction. Price often retraces during these patches without breaking the larger structure. When the bright green resumes after the blue patch, the trend has continued. The same pattern in the bearish direction: short brand-blue patches surrounded by bright red mark pauses inside a downtrend. The trend continues when the red resumes. What distinguishes a pause from a regime change is what comes after the blue patch. A pause sees the trend's color return. A regime change sees the opposite color appear. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHEN A TREND CHANGES A regime change appears as an extended sequence in the transitional band followed by the opposite color across many bars. Where a pause shows a brief brand-blue passage followed by the original trend color, a regime change shows the brand-blue passage lengthening. If the transitional period lasts many bars and the opposite color then appears in extended form, the indicator is communicating that strength has shifted to the other side. A few transitional bars do not make a regime change. A few opposite-colored bars do not make a regime change. A sustained sequence in the opposite half of the spectrum does. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WORKED EXAMPLES EXAMPLE 1. A SUSTAINED UPTREND The chart shows Sandisk Corporation on a daily scale across the year from May 2025 to May 2026, with price climbing from roughly 30 to roughly 1,590. The indicator carries bright green through nearly the entire move, with occasional brand-blue and teal patches at the minor consolidations. The character of the reading is durable green: not isolated green bars but a sustained sequence that holds through the whole rally. This is what a trend with conviction looks like through the indicator. EXAMPLE 2. A SUSTAINED DOWNTREND The chart shows Bitcoin on a daily scale from September 2025 to May 2026. The indicator transitions through brand blue at the October 2025 peak around 125,000 and sequences into bright red through the multi-month decline that follows, reaching a low near 60,000 in February 2026. The sustained red period from October through January is the downtrend's main body. The brief brand-blue and green patches inside the red sequence are pauses, not regime changes: the red resumes after each. From February onward the reading shifts into green and transitional colors as the recovery takes over. EXAMPLE 3. A MULTI-YEAR UPTREND The chart shows the US Tech 100 on a weekly scale from 2021 through May 2026. The 2022 bear market appears as red and transitional colors in the lower portion. From early 2023 onward the indicator carries bright green through a multi-year uptrend that runs from roughly 11,000 to nearly 30,000. The bright green is durable: the reading stays in the green half of the spectrum across years, with one notable drawdown in early 2025 appearing as a brief transition through brand blue and red before the trend resumed. Strong trends exist at every scale, including the multi-year scale. EXAMPLE 4. A MULTI-YEAR DOWNTREND The chart shows Alibaba Group Holdings on a weekly scale from 2019 through 2024. The indicator carries bright green through the rally to the late-2020 peak around 320, transitions through brand blue at the peak, and sequences into red and transitional colors through the multi-year decline that takes price from above 300 to below 80. The character of the reading across 2021 through 2024 is durable red and violet: a sustained sequence in the bearish half of the spectrum. Multi-year downtrends read the same way multi-year uptrends do, just on the opposite side of the spectrum. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ DISCLAIMER This indicator is an educational and informational tool, not personalized investment advice.
