Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner did not confirm Chris Richards’ status for Wednesday’s UEFA Conference League Final did give a positive update involving the American defender.Richards was back in training on Tuesday ahead of the Eagles’ showdown with Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig, Germany. The U.S. men’s national team centerback missed Crystal Palace’s English Premier League finale against Arsenal on Sunday after suffering an ankle injury the week prior.Richards was diagnosed with a multi-ligament injury after Crystal Palace’s 2-2 road draw with Brentford on May 17, forcing him to miss the league finale at Selhurst Park on Sunday. However, the injury hasn’t officially ruled him out of Glasner’s options for Wednesday’s match, which is a great sign for Crystal Palace and U.S. men’s national team fans alike. “I won’t tell you if they [Richards and midfielder Adam Wharton] can start or not, but they were available today in training.” Glasner told a news conference. “Yeah, we’ve still said when we end the training 36 hours to the start of the game with medical department, we work hard until late in the night and we’ll start tomorrow, but at the end we will nominate the starting 11 who is 100% fit.“So if we talk to them tomorrow morning again and if the player doesn’t feel 100% fit or I have a bit of concerns, then they don’t start,” he added. “But the positive thing is that they could make the training without big issues and of course they still have pain, but I think many players are feeling some pain after such a long season and that everybody wants to participate, but the final decision will be taken tomorrow.”Richards has made 50 appearances for Crystal Palace this season across all competitions, helping the club win the FA Cup and Community Shield in the past 12 months. In addition, the Alabama native was named to the USMNT’s 26-player World Cup roster on Tuesday, marking the second-consecutive time that he was named to a World Cup roster. Richards will aim to stay injury-free on Wednesday before joining up with the USMNT ahead of the final two pre-World Cup friendlies against Senegal and Germany.
