A 52-year-old man has been fined €10,000 after failing to register a tiger he kept in an enclosure in Marsaskala, according to a court ruling.Joshua Grima is accused of possessing unregistered dangerous animals on 6th February 2023 that were being kept in an unapproved location according to TVM News. The police went on site together with the Veterinary Services Department and found a cage containing two lions and a tiger. The authorities confirmed that the cage size was satisfactory and that the animals were in a good state. After hearing the evidence, Magistrate Ann Marie Thake remarked that while the lions had been registered, the tiger had not.She added that although there was no indication the tiger had been mistreated, the fact that its origins could not be traced and that it did not have a microchip created problems when the tiger died and was taken to the incinerator, as the authorities could not determine who owned the animal. She also noted that there had been a public safety risk because the tiger was being kept in an enclosure that was open from above and without any contingency plan in the event of an escape. She added that since the tiger had died, she was not ordering its confiscation. The court therefore found Grima guilty of the charges brought against him by Inspector Elliot Magro and fined him €10,000, which may be paid over a period of three years. What do you make of this?•
