Tourism in Malta continued to grow strongly in the first quarter of this year, with both guest numbers and overnight stays recording notable increases compared to the same period last year according to the National Statistics Office(NSO). According to the latest figures, total guests in collective accommodation establishments reached 654,784 between January and March 2026, representing a 15.5% increase over the first quarter of 2025. The total number of nights spent also rose, reaching 2,583,078- up 11% year-on-year.Four-star hotels accounted for the largest share of guest nights during the period, making up 50.2% of the total between January and March 2026.Occupancy levels also saw a slight improvement, with the net use of bed-places standing at 52.9%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points compared to the same quarter in 2025.The figures point to continued growth in Malta’s tourism sector at the start of the year.What do you make of these numbers?•
